On March 27, around 50 Muslims spent the day at the Tennessee State Legislature advocating on issues they care about including sensible gun laws, healthcare and immigration. We are grateful to all the legislators who took the time out of their busy schedules to meet with their constituents and hear our concerns about several bills. We had community members who were familiar with the halls of the TN legislature as well as those who were meeting their legislators for the first time. The social studies class from Memphis also had the opportunity to talk with their legislators. Several legislators, including Rep. Johnny Shaw, Rep. Gloria Johnson, Rep. Dwayne Thompson, Sen. Jeff Yarbro and Rep. Bob Freeman took the time to address our group and emphasis the importance of building a relationship with your legislators and contacting them on issues you care about. Thank you to everyone who participated this year. See you again next year for Muslim Day on the Hill!
