Public Health Intern

 

Organization Description: The American Muslim Advisory Council is a 501c3 tax exempt organization. Our mission is to foster mutual trust and respect among all people through civic engagement, community building and media relations in order to protect all Tennesseans from prejudice and targeted violence. We envision a Tennessee where all people, regardless of their faith or spiritual beliefs are accepted, respected and valued as members of our diverse society.

 

Position Description: The Public Health Intern will be working with our Public Health Outreach Team and the Executive Director in bringing mental and physical health resources to the Tennessee Muslim community. We will be hiring one intern from Middle Tennessee. 

 

The responsibilities will include - 

  • Doing research to find new public health partners. 

  • Recruiting volunteers for public health events. 

  • Drafting communications materials/promoting public health events. 

  • Being on-hand during events to assist community members in getting resources. 

  • Drafting social media posts and public information announcements for the Muslim community. 

 

Expectations: Interns will be expected to commit to around 10 hours of work weekly, noting that one hour will be used to check in with your manager. Internships can be renewed at the discretion of your manager. 

 

Benefits/Payment: Individuals are able to complete the program for semester-long periods, from January to May, May to August, and August to December. High-school students will receive a scholarship of $1000 at the completion of their internship alongside any needed recommendation letters. College students will receive scholarships of $2500 alongside any needed internship credits or college course hours as requested.

Development Intern

​

Position Description: The Development intern would spend their time with AMAC learning about how to fundraise for a non-profit organization and interact with community partners and events to expand AMAC’s reach out into the Nashville community. We will be hiring one Middle Tennessee and one East or West Tennessee intern. 

 

The responsibilities will include - 

  • Designing a fundraising plan for both online and in-person events. 

  • Helping in writing grants and reaching out to companies for sponsorships. 

  • Aiding in the build of marketing materials to promote organization programs for both online and physical printing. 

  • Assisting in any in-person fundraising banquets or events. 

  • Attending community events as needed around the Nashville community. 

  • Manage relevant social media or website updates needed for the program.

Communications Intern

Position Description: The communications intern will be responsible for specializing in creating online posts, offline printing, web development, and in-person marketing needs during events or outreach. We will be hiring one intern located anywhere in Tennessee. 

 

The responsibilities will include - 

  • Drafting consistent social media posts to highlight AMAC programs or narratives. 

  • Helping draft letters of advocacy or press releases in writing. 

  • Creating flyers and marketing materials for events and programming. 

  • Routinely update and maintain our website as needed. 

  • Write sections of the newsletter or relevant emails to expand AMAC to further online audiences

HR/Administrative Intern

Position Description: The HR/Administrative intern will work with the executive director to help manage organization oversight, office/event management, documentation of processes, and resource development. We will be hiring one intern in Middle Tennessee. 

 

The responsibilities will include - 

  • Reaching out to community partners and guests to coordinate meeting times, get price quotes from relevant vendors, manage tasks as determined. 

  • Working with staff to document organizational processes and procedures. 

  • Helping to reach out to volunteers/community members to get involved in programs. 

  • Develop resources or professional development opportunities for our community to take advantage of. 

  • Assist the Executive Director in any relevant day-to-day tasks as needed.

AMAC West Tennessee Program Manager
 

Overview

The American Muslim Advisory Council (AMAC) is seeking a West Tennessee Program Manager in Memphis, TN.  This position leads AMAC organizational activities in West TN and reports to the Executive Director. Public contact is a major component of the position, both internal and external to the organization. Work requires regular engagement with staff, community leaders and the public. 

 

Responsibilities for West TN Program Managers

 

  • Organizing daily activities based on the goals of AMAC.

  • Devising new programs that support AMAC’s objectives.

  • Developing sustainable goals for AMAC in West TN

  • Work with AMAC leadership to develop budgets and strategic  plans for programs.

  • Evaluating and assessing programs’ strengths and weaknesses.

  • Supervise interns and other employees in West TN.

  • Provide administrative support to executive director as necessary

  • Assist with planning and coordination of events, programs and their activities.

  • Schedule and organize program-related meetings and events.

  • Brainstorm, research & propose potential new partnerships.

  • Collaborate with partners on project management and event planning.

  • Create written content for circulation on program related activities and partnerships including assisting with newsletter and social media writing.

  • Travel across Shelby County and if necessary, other West TN locations to implement program activities.  

  • Oversee, execute and implement AMAC’s Covid related initiatives and activities. 

  • Perform other related duties as required.

 

Qualifications for West TN Program Manager

 

  • A strong desire to be an advocate for Muslims across Tennessee.

  • Proficient with computer technology and Microsoft Office applications.

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills. 

  • Excellent problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional time management and organizational skills.

  • Sharp attention to detail with an extraordinary ability to multitask.

  • Reliable and diligent worker.
